OK so I was just browsing the desktop screen shot board and pretty much every "preview" links to someone's page on deviant art. I have nothing against dA, I have an account too. I was just wondering if theres anyone on this forum that doesn't use dA. lalala.....

I left dA and came back. I have a subscribed account w/ beta testing program, I can see the new version of DeviantART! tongue

What I don't get is why people join DA and all they do is upload screenshots. Why? That isn't art.

unless they make the stuff on the screen shot. it also is a good way to display art actually. if you make some icons they may look shitty on the preview but in action, they might be pretty beast. also dA was originally CREATED for digital art, and because they have a section for screenshots one must assume that it is art. also a lot of artistic thought goes into a screenshot.

IMO its just people who have windows and wish they had a mac and instead of saving up to buy one they put that money on windowblinds, object bar, ect.

Some screenshots are rather good, especially if they are from a skilled designer to see what their set up looks like but the section was set up to let members post their screenshot on their profile page. I get your point that they might want to show off icons and/or walls but its rather pointless for people who don't make icons or walls.

I dont see a problem with that, someone cant afford it for now they go off and make it look like a mac (most of those people end up getting one in the end). I dont see this pointless at all, as you also like alxmarcond said, put in a lot of artistic thought into how to organize your screenshot, what themes and icons to use, etc.

You're saying that everyone emulates mac, thats because they like the look of it and are obsessed with it tongue

, if some other skin came out that looked awesome everyone would drop mac and start making their desktop emulate that new thing

Well If dA has a screenshot category, might as well put a screenshot there. If you customized your computer, you can consider it art wink

If ya want to see the new version, just look at my journal layout, it's version 6 and since I am a beta tester, I can see it and use it anytime I want.
