I always have ideas, and well this time i've been thinking of making the site invite-only. While it sounds like it's just going to get less members, my reverse phsycology on this is that it will do that opossite, and generate more fame and members for the site. This is a big idea so I want to know what everyone thinks before I go ahead with this.

Here is what I would do.

Every month, a selective amount of top members will get 10 "invite codes". You can send out those invites to people and when they register they enter that code.

It would also significantly cut leeching and perhaps improve the amount of "exclusive" things we have.

Personally I think we SHOULD do this, because we can try it out for one week, see how it goes, and if it went bad I'd just activate all the users that tried joining during that time and everything would be back to normal

If you're really intending on making this site exclusive, the invite only is a good way of going about it.
But invitations should go through moderators for a second check.
Giving those invites away would defeat the whole purpose.
There is one thing though...
Be prepared to be criticized and don't expect to dramatically increase the number of members as the whole point of exclusivity is to keep a community "tight".
As everyone says, you can always switch back if it doesn't work out.
If the later is the case, then you might think about the fact that your exclusives section is bigger than your public releases section.
While it might motivate a few new members, it discourages others.

@Alexx, that's what I've been thinking as well, over time it will generate much for activity smile

So far today, i've gotten 3 invite requests. Seems to be going pretty well for just the first day!
